Emory Athletics is an NCAA Division III sports department at Emory University. As a Marketing and Events employee, I worked to both organize and promote the various sporting events happening on-campus. For the three years I worked under the department, I served as both a Summer Marketing Intern and Team Supervisor.
As a Team Supervisor, I led on-site and online event promotion of corporate sponsors and student athletes for over 50 UAA Championships and varsity sporting events, including other campus-wide activities, every semester. During the summer, I devised and implemented new methods of promotion and training, including researching and developing a community engagement app, to draw in fan support and encourage a positive work environment. For marketing, specifically, I created digital content for advertising purposes, including videos and flyers, distributed through social media.
Emory Athletics hosts events for both the on-campus and local communities, as well as visiting schools competing in the sporting events. The Emory mascot, Swoop, is also marketed under the Athletics department, so as a Marketing Supervisor, I incorporated Swoop into spirit events on-campus as well. During my time there, I made sure the events operated smoothly for the athletes and were enjoyable for spectators, and of course, I made sure there were spectators there in the first place.
I utilized Hootsuite to manage Swoop’s various social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I planned and created content based on the social media outlet and various events we had lined up. I also collaborated with my boss on developing a fan engagement app using the SuperFanU platform.
