Theater Emory is an SPT8 professional Equity theater located on Emory University’s campus. I performed as a student actor in 9 separate TE productions during my time at Emory. I also crafted set pieces, including walls, ramps, and stairs, and aided in the scenic painting for their 2014 production of Free/Fall.
What I Did
I acted in 4 full TE productions, playing Oliver in As You Like It, a Street Person in José Rivera’s Marisol, Mrs. Sands in Pinter Kaleidoscope (a tribute to Harold Pinter’s works), and Viola in I Am Not That I Play (an examination of Shakespeare’s breeches roles). I also participated in several readings, including collaborative workshops with Lauren Gunderson for her works The Book of Will and The Revolutionists. Now that I am no longer a student, my hope is to continue working with the company as a professional in the future.
Who I Did It For
Theater Emory is a great learning environment for students, as it allows them to collaborate with other professional and Equity artists and learn first hand how to approach both old and new work. As an Equity theater, their shows are not only for the local campus community, but the greater Atlanta community to enjoy.
