VMware AirWatch is an Atlanta-based tech company that provides enterprise mobility management solutions for organizations who are interested in managing the content, applications, and email on their company devices. During the Summer of 2016, I was an intern in the Request for Proposal department.
During my internship, I performed independent research on technical content and coordinated with senior team members to create responses and supporting documentation for 3 RFPs and RFIs. I also developed and completed 4 special projects to increase the efficiency of team operations. Some of those projects included writing 118 case study summaries and reorganizing on-boarding materials for new team members. Throughout the summer, I also participated in a mentorship program called Women Connecting Women, which included weekly meetings with my mentor and other women in the company. On the side, I also worked with my fellow interns to organize and lead a volunteer party for the patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The RFP department is very team oriented. While my mentor gave me most of my assignments, they often involved supporting other team members on their projects, so I had the opportunity to help everyone on the team. By revitalizing the on-boarding materials for the department, I was also able to assist future employees and interns when they join the team. It was also very rewarding to provide the patients at CHOA with a fun experience like a Detective party.
This job required not only knowledge of Microsoft Office and email, but the AirWatch product itself. I spent several weeks studying the product in order to get my accreditations, which helped immensely when I needed to explain the product to others. I also learned to navigate the various VMware databases for information that I did not already know.
